Landscapes

Self-Evaluation:
This unit is called landscapes. There are a couple different types of landscapes. These landscapes include rural and urban. These are the ones that I shot.
Rural landscapes are those that are in the countryside and is a geographic area that is located outside towns and cities. I shot these images by going out to open fields and hiking around in places that were located between cites or towns. When I took these images, I wanted to make sure that I captured the essence of nature's beauty from every angle possible. I decided to put some of the rural images in color because I wanted to show the bright glow of the sun and of all of the green that is missing from the cities and towns. I also out some in black and white because I wanted to be able to emphasize the deep characteristics that are soaked into the usual image most people see. I wanted people to see what lies underneathe the usual image that is seen with their own eyes.
Urban landscapes are those that sometimes include people, but they are mainly focused on the structures of the town or city. These images capture what the experience of a city or town is. They also express details that are involved within a city or town. These images may also include certain buildings that make up the city and give it its name. I shot these images by driving around town and searching for that particular moment where I could see buildings that were special to Omaha, Nebraska. I traveled throughout Omaha and in parts of Iowa to find the perfect shots. In order for me to shoot the perfect shot, I had to shoot from various angles and had to try various exposures to try to obtain the best effect that I wanted. With taking these images, I also wanted to make sure that I had variations in bright and cloudy conditions. This allowed me to show people the weather that Omaha, Nebraska has and to show them how beautiful the city is in all weather conditions. I wanted to put all of the images in color because I wanted to express the beauty of the city with its lights and by the reflections they have of the sun and their own reflections in the water that surrounds them instead of trying to point out specific details through black and white.
With shooting urban landscapes, I also wanted to add more variations in was "urban" means. So, I took some street photography. Street photography is where the images are composed of art that involves chance encounters and random incidents within public places. When I was shooting these images, I couldn't just go out to look for shots because this type of photography is mostly unintended or not pre-setup. I just started to wander around and kept my camera out to take whatever shots may come my way. I chose to make these images in both black and white, and color because I wanted to be able to show the strong aspects of street photography and the people in them in black and white. I made the others in color because I wanted to make the look of nature stronger and to make it vibrant with color and culture.
Overall, this unit was very fun and it allowed mw to be able to deeper into Omaha, Nebraska and to see what all it has to offer. I was also able to explore this medium of photography and expand my photographer's eye for what the world looks like through my camera instead of through my naked eye.
